I respectfully submit that the existence of such a counter-charge against me furnishes a good ground for putting me upon my trial, but no ground at all for declining or delaying to do justice upon the original complaints.

With regard to my letter to the Secretary of State and the appendix of correspondence, I must request with all deference that the usual course may not be departed from, but that they may be sent home by the coming mail according to my two applications of the 29th and 31st ultimo.

I firmly but respectfully protest against The Executive Council being consulted as to the propriety of intercepting my appeal to Her Majesty's Imperial Government, and I trust that if H.E. takes the unusual step of refusing to forward those papers to the Secretary of State, I may be apprised of his intention in sufficient time before the departure of this mail to enable me to forward a new and direct communication to Her Labouchere on the subject.

I have lastly to request, in continuation of my applications of yesterday, that my letters of that date and my present reply may be added to the appendix and transmitted by this mail to the Secretary of State, together with my letter to him of the 29th ultimo.

I have the honor to forward the Appendix to my despatch to the Secretary of State - being, with one exception, copies of letters to and from your office, the earlier transmission of which in its present complete state was impossible because it comprises letters to which the perusal of that despatch gave rise, namely a subsequent correspondence instituted by you, which has now been added to the Appendix.
